A New Beginning for Climate-Resilient Rural Development: IRDCRP Kicks Off in Trincomalee

The Inauguration and Kick-Off Meeting of the Integrated Rural Development and Climate Resilience Project (IRDCRP) was successfully held in the Trincomalee District on 28 August 2026, marking the formal commencement of project activities at selected locations.
The programme was conducted at Galkadawala, covering the Galkadawala Maha Wewa and Maila Wewa II, and at Kimbulpetiyawa, covering Demata Wewa, Kimbulpetiyawa Wewa and Weli Wewa. The event brought together elected representatives, government officials, technical officers, IRDCRP project staff, contractors, Farmer Organizations and members of the farming community.
The programme was attended by Hon. Arun Hemachandra, M.P., Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Hon. Roshan Akmeemana, M.P., and other district-level officials and stakeholders. Addresses delivered during the programme emphasized the importance of the project and its expected contribution to the farming community.
The commencement of project activities was ceremonially marked by the Deputy Minister at both locations. Technical discussions were also conducted on the proposed works, including the scope of work, Bill of Quantities (BOQ), technical requirements, implementation arrangements and stakeholder responsibilities.
The active participation of Farmer Organizations and farmers provided an important platform to identify local needs and practical concerns and to strengthen communication between project implementation agencies and beneficiaries.
The kick-off programme served as an important milestone in initiating IRDCRP implementation in the Trincomalee District and establishing effective coordination among all key stakeholders for the successful delivery of project activities.
